Method
Marinate the Beef
- In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, sesame oil, and minced garlic. Toss to coat evenly and let it marinate for 10–15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
Make the Sauce
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, ginger, water, and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside.
Blanch the Broccoli
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli and cook for 1–2 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop cooking. Drain again and set aside.
Cook the Beef
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer (do in batches if needed) and sear for 2–3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove and set aside.
Stir-Fry the Broccoli and Combine
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil. Add the minced garlic and stir for 30 seconds. Add the blanched broccoli and toss for 1–2 minutes. Return the cooked beef to the pan.
Add the Sauce
- Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and broccoli. Stir and cook for another 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.
Finish and Serve
- Drizzle with a bit of sesame oil and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired. Serve hot over steamed rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice.
